Traditionally, August is a month for vacation. Before the age of cell phones and email, two weeks at the beach was not uncommon — it was a time to do nothing, recharge, and get ready for the busy fall season. The northeast headed to the Hamptons, Martha’s Vineyard, or Nantucket. The south moved closer to the water, even if just by a few minutes. Sullivan’s Island, Wrightsville, Kiawah, and for the adventurous, Rosemary or any other gulf locale. Traveling further South in August still baffles me as a ‘thing’, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Fishing, golf, and a whole lot of nothing.
Still holding on to the pre-internet days, Italy takes almost the entire month off. While envious, it’s fairly inconvenient for an industry that does quite a bit of business with the old world…
Just like a week of nothing can recharge the mind, wearing a swimsuit for an entire week can help recharge your sartorial chops. Sometimes it helps you simplify. A few pieces, but just the right ones, have more of an overall effect than flashy accessories. Or maybe you’ve got the basics nailed — the restart can get you rolling on the next phase of enlightenment: seasonal tailoring. And there’s no better time to get the mind going on your best fall look.
So step back and slow down for a minute. Because before you know it, it’ll be time to suit back up and step on the gas.
